Original exercise by Quest Field Guide

Category Recall Lab

Krillion practice with a different challenge: find three distinct answers per category. Stretch your recall across seven prompts, then learn from the reference sets.

Independent of Krillion · Original prompts and breadth points · Published

Build a seven-prompt round

First answer: 10 points. Second: 15. Third: 20. Maximum 315 per round. These are practice points for breadth, not rarity or an official Krillion score.

The interactive lab needs JavaScript. If it cannot load, the full question bank, reference answers and sources below remain available to read.

Answers stay in this tab’s memory and reset on refresh. With analytics consent, we record only a practice start or completed round and its pace; never your answers or score. Privacy details.

How this practice works

Recall, then change direction

Enter one answer at a time. After a familiar answer, try another region, period or subgroup. Three different matches end the prompt early; you can also finish a prompt to see its reference list.

Explicit matching

Case, spacing, accents and punctuation are normalized. Listed spelling variants are accepted, but there is no fuzzy autocorrect. Two aliases for one answer earn points once. Use full names unless a prompt says otherwise.

A limited reference set

“Not in this practice set” is not a claim that your answer is wrong in the world or in Krillion. This lab checks its own published lists, not the official game’s database. Report omissions through Corrections & contact.

Question bank, answers and sources

18 independently written prompts. Each round mixes topics and avoids closely related categories. Open the references to study without a timer, including when JavaScript is unavailable.

Name planets in our solar system

Use planet names, not moons or dwarf planets.

Reference set: Mercury · Venus · Earth · Mars · Jupiter · Saturn · Uranus · Neptune

Work outward from the Sun instead of stopping at the first planet you remember.

NASA Science · About Planets ↗

Name terrestrial planets in our solar system

The four inner, rocky planets; exclude the giant planets.

Reference set: Mercury · Venus · Earth · Mars

Picture the planets inside the asteroid belt.

NASA Science · About Planets ↗

Name officially recognized dwarf planets

The five recognized dwarf planets listed by NASA; exclude candidates.

Reference set: Ceres · Pluto · Haumea · Makemake · Eris

Remember that one is in the asteroid belt, not beyond Neptune.

NASA Science · About Planets ↗

Name Galilean moons of Jupiter

Use the names of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons.

Reference set: Io · Europa · Ganymede · Callisto

Think of the four large moons, rather than all of Jupiter’s smaller satellites.

Name Apollo missions that landed people on the Moon

Enter a mission name or number, such as Apollo 11. Lunar orbits and the aborted Apollo 13 landing do not count.

Reference set: Apollo 11 · Apollo 12 · Apollo 14 · Apollo 15 · Apollo 16 · Apollo 17

Also accepted: Apollo 11: 11; Apollo 12: 12; Apollo 14: 14; Apollo 15: 15; Apollo 16: 16; Apollo 17: 17.

After the first two landings, remember the gap before the next successful landing.

Name US states starting with M

Use full English state names; abbreviations are not used in this drill.

Reference set: Maine · Maryland · Massachusetts · Michigan · Minnesota · Mississippi · Missouri · Montana

Try the Atlantic coast, the Great Lakes and the interior separately.

US Census Bureau · Regions and divisions (PDF, page 2) ↗

Name US states starting with N

Full English state names, including names starting with New or North.

Reference set: Nebraska · Nevada · New Hampshire · New Jersey · New Mexico · New York · North Carolina · North Dakota

Search the two-word names before moving to the single-word names.

US Census Bureau · Regions and divisions (PDF, page 2) ↗

Name US states starting with A

Use full English state names, not cities or abbreviations.

Reference set: Alabama · Alaska · Arizona · Arkansas

Two are in the South; two are in the West.

US Census Bureau · Regions and divisions (PDF, page 2) ↗

Name New England states

Use the six states in the US Census Bureau’s New England division.

Reference set: Connecticut · Maine · Massachusetts · New Hampshire · Rhode Island · Vermont

New York is in the Middle Atlantic division, so move farther northeast.

US Census Bureau · Regions and divisions (PDF, page 2) ↗

Name states in the US Census Pacific division

Use Census division membership, not only the contiguous Pacific coastline.

Reference set: Alaska · California · Hawaii · Oregon · Washington

Include the two noncontiguous states in this division.

Name SI base units

Enter unit names, not symbols or derived units. US spelling meter is accepted.

Reference set: second · metre · kilogram · ampere · kelvin · mole · candela

Also accepted: metre: meter; ampere: amp.

Think of the quantities: time, length, mass, current, temperature, amount and light intensity.

BIPM · SI base units ↗

Name SI prefixes for factors greater than one

Prefix names only, such as kilo; not symbols or complete units.

Reference set: deca · hecto · kilo · mega · giga · tera · peta · exa · zetta · yotta · ronna · quetta

Also accepted: deca: deka.

Move from tens and hundreds toward powers of a thousand.

BIPM · SI prefixes ↗

Name SI prefixes for factors less than one

Prefix names only, such as milli; not symbols or complete units.

Reference set: deci · centi · milli · micro · nano · pico · femto · atto · zepto · yocto · ronto · quecto

Start just below one, then move to smaller powers of ten.

BIPM · SI prefixes ↗

Name elements with atomic numbers 1–10

Enter element names, not symbols.

Reference set: Hydrogen · Helium · Lithium · Beryllium · Boron · Carbon · Nitrogen · Oxygen · Fluorine · Neon

Run across the first two rows of the periodic table.

IUPAC · Periodic table (PDF) ↗

Name elements with atomic numbers 11–20

Element names only; aluminium/aluminum and sulfur/sulphur are both accepted.

Reference set: Sodium · Magnesium · Aluminium · Silicon · Phosphorus · Sulfur · Chlorine · Argon · Potassium · Calcium

Also accepted: Aluminium: aluminum; Sulfur: sulphur.

Start at sodium, cross the third period and continue through calcium.

IUPAC · Periodic table (PDF) ↗

Name Group 18 elements

Use element names from the rightmost column of IUPAC’s periodic table, including element 118.

Reference set: Helium · Neon · Argon · Krypton · Xenon · Radon · Oganesson

Move down the column instead of staying with the gases you hear about most often.
